Meeting up with friends, hitting the gym, relaxing at home with your feet up after a hard day at work.  What would you do with the extra hours you could save travelling to and from the office?  The next time you're stuck in a traffic jam envisioning better possibilities, many happy downtown dwellers are already living out the dream.

"From the time I leave out the door and walk to work it takes ten minutes."  For Sarah Kelly, who works in Finance at Manulife Place, it's a life well lived.  Her relocation to Edmonton's core just made sense.

"I was living south side and got a new job downtown - it would have taken me an hour to get home at the end of the day.  Instead I sold my place and moved closer to work. That was 13 years ago and it's…

With chilly temperatures and snowfall blanketing our city, it can be easy to just settle in, get cozy and hibernate our way through conditions that can take up more than half of our calendar year. But as Canadians, it’s so important that we take full advantage of the beautiful communities we call home and get out and stay active during every season.

Fitness expert, Trainer and owner of SVPT Fitness & Athletics , Shara Vigeant, says it’s important to avoid inactivity during the long winter months.

“Depression, disease or chronic illness, injury and lack of independence are just a few of the risks. Moving simply makes us healthier and happier,” she says. “The longer you are inactive, the more you are putting yourself at risk for ill health and…

For over a decade the Diamond family have been living the acreage life outside the city limits in Sturgeon County. While they raised their young daughter it was perfect. Lisa and Jerrold Diamond could spend time in their yard and let their toddler run loose without worrying about traffic or noise. They could just live what most would consider a quiet country life.

It was right where both Lisa and Jerrold worked and it was easy to drop her at school on their morning commute. But as time went on the commuting became more than Lisa could handle.

“It was good for a long time.  When…

I love shopping local, and it’s so easy to do so in Edmonton. There are so many talented makers here doing incredible work, and an impressive selection of shops focusing on locally-made ethical fashion and sustainability.

I love promoting Edmonton’s local shopping and culinary scenes. In fact, I’m so passionate about it, I present a weekly feature, the Local Love List, at KariSkelton.com, showcasing what our city offers up.

When we were searching for our first home, my husband Ryan and I knew we wanted to be central, right in the heart of the action, within walkable distance of shops and restaurants.

It makes me SO happy to see an…

But maybe more importantly, is the neighbourhood right for you and your family? What about the neighbourhood matters to you? It might be parks, walkability, nearby grocery stores. It could also be proximity to good, neighbourhood restaurants.

There are some great options for neighbourhood eats in Edmonton, and over the last few years, the number of local restaurants popping up in all corners of the city have been on the rise. While downtown or Whyte Ave are certainly popular centres for delicious food,…
