Dining Around the City: Edmonton’s Best Eats by Neighbourhood

Edmonton's Best Eats by Neighbourhood

Edmonton’s food scene is thriving, with new restaurants opening regularly alongside beloved #yegfoodie favourites. Exploring a neighbourhood’s dining options is one of the best ways to get a genuine feel for a community’s character and vibe, whether you’re planning a night out or thinking about where to put down roots.

In this blog post, we’re highlighting some of the city’s most exciting restaurant openings alongside tried-and-true spots across several of Edmonton’s most notable neighbourhoods.

Central

The downtown core and surrounding mature neighbourhoods like Wîhkwêntôwin and Riverdale are go-to destinations for locally owned spots with serious culinary cred.

New Pick:

Bar Trove brings European-inspired charm and elegance to Edmonton’s downtown, while Love Song Bistro, curated by the team behind Iconoclast Coffee, impresses with its unique location behind the popular Oliver Exchange Building.

Nearby on 104 Street, Bernadette’s offers a refined menu with Indigenous influence, celebrating local ingredients and storytelling through food in a chic, welcoming setting.

Forever Favourites:

Rosewood Foods is an easygoing brunch favourite, while Sofra continues to impress with its flavourful Turkish cuisine. Over in Riverdale, Dogpatch is known for its scratch-made bistro eats and mimosa flights, while nearby Little Brick Café charms with its outdoor picnic tables in a heritage setting.

Northside

The Highlands is one of Edmonton’s most charming food and drink destinations north of the river, but we also love Little Italy and the unexpected corner just north of it for seriously delicious bites.

New Pick:

Tulip Sandwich Shoppe is the new daytime alter ego of Otto Food & Drink, serving up sandwiches and deli-inspired eats. Otto itself remains a local favourite as a popular Amsterdam-inspired beer and sausage bar.

Forever Favourites:

Fox Burger serves up stacked burgers in the historic Gibbard Block Building with a fun, nostalgic vibe, while Allegro Italian Kitchen remains a mainstay for traditional Italian, with both their Little Italy and Crestwood locations worth a visit.

Southside

Old Strathcona is known for its energy and expansive lineup of bars and restaurants, but don’t sleep on neighbouring Garneau, Ritchie, and Bonnie Doon for some of the most delicious food offerings in the city.

New Pick:

Campio Ritchie has taken over the former Biera space, pairing brewery-style fare with a stylish sleek setting. Just next door, Relish Bar & Market is a quick pop-in spot for curated wines, charcuterie, and takeaway treats.

We love EPIC Market in Station Park’s elevated food hall concept on Whyte, and Garneau’s Little Wolf is our latest go-to spot for casual cocktails and snacks.

Forever Favourites:

Farrow Sandwiches continues to draw crowds with their inventive stacks, and Flat Boy Burgers inside Shiddy’s Distilling and Rumpus Room, is a no-frills burger spot that gets everything right.

Moonga Nori is a quiet gem for sushi lovers, and Café Bicyclette in the French Quarter is a favourite for its Francophone roots and summer patio.

West of 124th Street, mature communities like Crestwood and Glenora are full of locally owned gems that make this part of town a worthy foodie destination.

Forever Favourites:

Rebel Food and Drink first turned heads with its nostalgia-driven desserts and has grown into a west-end staple, while Happy & Olive continues to draw crowds for brunch.

Just off 124th Street, Partake serves rustic French-inspired fare and cocktails, while Glenora’s West Block is home to multiple buzz-worthy favourites. Leopard is known for its wood-fired pizza, and we also love neighbouring Zula, a Mediterranean spot with standout service.
