Park-Side Living in Old Glenora
A Green Oasis
In a city teeming with new suburbs and with skinny homes gaining popularity, 13810 Ravine Drive feels like an unexpected gem. With a street name like “Ravine Drive” you know the location of this home will be stunning but expectations are exceeded as you pull up to our latest listing in Glenora to see literal park-side living.
Both fronting and backing onto park space, this is one of only four homes on a secluded street in Old Glenora. The trees are mature, the landscaping is lush, and the street traffic is minimal so you can hear birds chirping right from your front door. Glenora is one of Edmonton’s most desirable neighbourhoods, centrally located for quick access to bustling downtown yet surrounded by the city’s most beautiful natural amenities.
With their children grown the sellers of 13810 Ravine Drive, Michael and Shelley, are downsizing. However, they plan to stay in the neighbourhood for its tight-knit community feel. They admit that leaving their current home will be tough, “It’s a green oasis. All you see is green any way you look,” says Michael, but they’re looking forward to this new chapter in their life as empty nesters.
13810 Ravine Drive NW
As you walk up the front steps of 13810 Ravine Drive guests are greeted by a serene water feature lending to an incredibly private park-side living feel that extends throughout the home.
The house itself is timeless and contemporary, the perfect blend of structural strength, sophisticated living, and architectural form. Thoughtfully designed, each room makes the most of the home’s park surroundings with numerous floor-to-ceiling windows bringing the outdoors in.
Sellers Michael and Shelley tell us that the original owner would travel between Edmonton and Phoenix, taking inspiration from his Arizona house with some of this home’s design. This is evident in the overall structure and finishes like the granite fireplace surrounds that pull warm sandy tones and stacked stone features throughout.
Michael’s favourite room in the house is the upstairs bonus room styled as a study which feels like a true retreat with its full-height windows that provide sweeping park views, private balcony, and cozy fireplace feature. Stacked stone acts as a design piece and feature wall complemented by maple-toned built-in cabinetry. Perfect for working late or as a place to unwind, the room features a wet bar with a stunning hammered copper basin sink and antique-inspired copper faucet.
Shelley says guests fall in love with the home’s great room. Its sunken footprint draws attention to its impressive 20’ ceiling and a two-story stone fireplace feature steals the show. She brings attention to how the granite surround complements the stone perfectly and both Michael and Shelley love how the room’s floating spiral staircase feels like an art piece of its own.
As dog owners, the couple spends a lot of time in Faith Clifton/Alan MacDonald Memorial Park located directly behind their home. “It’s become an informal meeting place for neighbours and their dogs,” says Michael. The couple love the tight-knit community in the area. Community members even host an informal block party in the park space out front each year on the Summer Solstice.
A Perfectly Placed Location
With a home in Old Glenora you can enjoy the neighbourhood’s old town charm with its ornate street lighting and mature treed surroundings, but what makes 13810 Ravine Drive unique is its proximity to other Edmonton hot-spots like Crestwood and 124th Street.
Glenora itself hosts the beautiful Glenora fountain and MacKinnon Ravine Park flush with shaded trails, lookout points, and easy access to the river. Plus, a host of local businesses like The Colombian Coffee Bar and Roastery, Square 1 Coffee in West Block, and the forever-loved Vi’s for Pies.
Head to 124th Street and the High Street area to browse some of the city’s best art galleries and shop storefronts like Red Ribbon Boutique, Pura Botanicals, and Miss Boss Women’s Boutique. The restaurant scene here is also noteworthy.
Michael and Shelley spend a lot of time in Crestwood. Rub elbows with Edmonton’s elite at Allegro Italian Kitchen, pick up lunch supplies at Careit Urban Deli, or find your next favourite bottle of vino at Crestwood Fine Wines and Spirits. No matter where they wander it always feels close to home and they’re always bumping into neighbours and friends.
